hallo mein Gleiche (peers, hopefully),
what i want the subject to mean is "My Notes"
however, based on my previous experiences with the talents of altavista Babelfish, there is as much chance that i am referring to my notes as there is that I am unknowingly referring to my pet frog, so i only hope that when Dr. J comes on the reference is clear, and even better, grammatically correct.

anyway enough of this, i've got an early morning tomorrow and i'm just not up for making this a long post. the notes will be half-hearted at best, BUT if you want me to leave full-fledged heart-felt transcriptions of my notes, post YOUR OWN (even half-heartedly) and i'll be so excited by this development that i will post all of my completed homework in a fit of emphatic glee.

First HW Progress Report / Bizarre Sentence.

my understanding of the HW is we do AKT 14-16, Pgs. 15-17 of the main book.
this is backed up by the fact that pages 15-17 of the lab book appear to be discussing Umlauts, and 15-17 of the workbook are the beginning of a new chapter, the chapter preceding not even HAVING an AKT 16.

still, if i have misunderstood the assignment in any way, i'd appreciate someone saying so.

that said:

the first assignment, #14 is so simple & self-explanatory there is no reason to digress to it, except to comment on the remarkable dumbness of having a PICTURE with NO GERMAN WORDS on it as one of the answers. what's the point? i'm not in this to test my IQ after all, at least not if it doesn't involve the GERMAN LANGUAGE.

HERZLICH WILKOMMEN. that means to welcome cordially, or i welcome you cordially.
Abend! That's German slang for Evening, a greeting because it is the evening at present and I am greeting you.

so for this next exercise your name is JACK, and you are inferior to me so i am addressing you informally.

Ich heisse Johnny Bliss!
(I am called Johnny Bliss!)
[Alternatively I could say "Mein Name ist Johnny Bliss"...you don't really need me to translate that, do you?]

At this point one of us says something that my dumb ass did not actually write down in notes (i'm hopeless! no wonder women don't like me!) but what this missing word means, is like "i'm truly honored to make your acquaintance" except even more grandiose than that.
the response is "gleichfalls!" - according to altavista babelfish, that means "also!"

but wait, Jack! I haven't asked you how you're doing yet!!
since you're still inferior to me, i'm still going to address you informally.

'mir geht's' is the 'ich bin' of emotion, but you wouldn't want to say 'ich bin sehr gut' because it would seem you were on an ego trip.
